How to Prepare for a Telehealth Appointment
Your therapist will email through a link once reception is notified of the change. The email will also include any tools and resources needed for the session. It is best to prepare the resources and tools prior to the commencement of the session to truly utilise the appointment time.
For a regular physiotherapy session:
-
Make sure the child has enough floor space to participate in activities.
-
Ensure the camera is angled so the therapist can see the child at all times.
-
If the therapy session is happening outside, make sure your volume is up high so you can hear the therapist clearly. Make sure it isn’t too loud outside so the therapist can hear you clearly as well.
-
Having a peanut ball or couch, a pillow, a ball, beanbags, a hoop, a puzzle, a card game, a bike nearby is appreciated.

Having a parent nearby is essential, unless the therapist has stated otherwise.

Make sure the child is seated at a desk that is the appropriate height for them.
-
Provide foot stool or similar to ensure their feet are able to rest flat when seated.
-
Ensure the camera is angled so the therapist can see the child at all times.
-
Make sure your volume is up high so you can hear the therapist clearly.
-
Have pencils, crayons, pencil grips, putty, blank and lined paper, scissors, ruler, printed resources, and a rubber nearby and ready to use.
-
Having a parent nearby is essential, unless the therapist has stated otherwise.
Would telehealth work for my child?
Telehealth sessions can be really beneficial as they allow the therapist to see the child working in their natural environment, and they also allow us ways to demonstrate how to use everyday objects for therapeutic benefit. If you think you child may be anxious about the online service delivery, have them choose a special to y etc to bring to the session to show their therapist, as this often break the ice, as well as being a lovely rapport builder between you child and their therapist.
Who can access this service?
Our telehealth service extends to regular occupational therapy and physiotherapy sessions and parent consultations.
An initial assessment or an NDIS review cannot be done via telehealth.
